An Invitation: Screening of HerStory Short Films in Sabah!

Hi guys!

I read a very interesting comment on the Green Leaf Theatre House group page just now about a short films project called HerStory which debuted in Annexe Gallery in KL two weeks ago. And now, they’re bringing it to KK!

I know this is very last minute but they have a film screening later tonight (Friday, Oct 29th) at 8pm – 10.30pm in UMS.

But if you’re not free, don’t worry! There will be a second screening tomorrow (Oct 30th) as well! It will be at the Penampang Library Hall in Donggongon at 4pm – 6pm.

They are also conducting a workshop tomorrow from 10am – 2pm, but I’m not sure if it’s too late to join the workshop as they might have a dateline for interested participants. But you can always ask them if you’re interested.

Green Leaf Theatre House has no relations what so ever with the organizers of HerStory and we are just helping spread the news because really, events like these only happens once in a blue moon in Sabah!

Thumbs up to the organizers, HerStory Filmmakers and HerStory Tellers for the amazing effort!

Everybody, COME AND SUPPORT THEM! :)

Our Raya Show — I WANT TO BE A YB… Can You Handle It?

—————–
SYNOPSIS
—————–

Malaysia, our beloved Malaysia, a land of colours and creed. Peaceful as we are with no war and no riots, what does it take to keep Malaysians contained?

Some say we are a time bomb, ticking into what may be the second May 13th. Signs? Cow head march, church bombings, racial fights and unplanned development.

This theatrical play, entitled “I WANT TO BE A YB… Can you handle it?” aims to exaggerate and provide general interpretations of what Malaysia may be without taking a glance into the glamorous tourism adverts which we are famous for.

This play introduces Dato Hilmie bin Kursi Lantong who strives to win the Malaysian people over for the upcoming election. The do’s and don’ts are brought to a comical presentation in this full length play as we see how ‘humorous’ our society can be.

We are what we are, its either we make the acceptance or turn into denial. However, this play is not aimed to provide judgement, it is merely a comical approach to the political and social satire of Malaysia. It is up to the viewer to absorb, accept or even reject whatever is brought forth. It is not to discriminate nor create propaganda, its merely self reflection.

Malaysia truly Asia”; Original or copycat? “Budi Bahasa Budaya Kita”; take a drive down Malaysian roads.

Think… ponder… and smile for being Malaysian..

Upcoming Workshop: IMPROVISATION WORKSHOP

Improvisation (or improv, for short) is the practise of acting, singing, talking and reacting, of making and creating, in the moment and in response to the stimulus of one’s immediate environment and inner feelings.” – Wikipedia

This workshop introduces people with little or no experience to improvisation in a non-judgemental and fun way. Basic skills that we will touch on are listening, being in the moment, non-verbal communication and failing in order to succeed.

There are 2 forms of Improvisation: Short Form and Long Form Improv. Short Form consists of short scenes from a predetermined game, structure, idea and is driven by audience suggestions. Think “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”. Long Form involves scenes interrelated by story, characters or themes. Think “Saturday Night Live”. What this workshop will focus on is Short Form Improvisation.
